samxemma release debut EP ‘HOT PEOPLE MAKE HOT MUSIC’ – out NOW on September Records

Manchester-based transatlantic duo samxemma release their new EP ‘HOT PEOPLE MAKE HOT MUSIC’ via September Records (Obongjayar, For Those I Love), arriving alongside focus single ‘HOT BOYS MAKE HOT MUSIC’. 

A boundary-blurring five track, ‘HOT PEOPLE MAKE HOT MUSIC’ positions samxemma as one of the most exciting new acts stitching together the edges of pop and rave. It flips between toxic confession (‘GOSSIP GIRL‘), pure infatuation (‘I’M SO LOUD‘ – “If you like sex, you’ll like this song” – Emma), adolescent nostalgia (‘MORE TO YOU‘) and venomous call-outs (‘HE’S SO GROSS‘ – “about most men I’ve interacted with. The good ones get it,” says Emma).

Closing track and the EP’s focus single ‘HOT BOYS MAKE HOT MUSIC‘ erupts as a supernova of self-mythology, distilling the duo’s chemistry into a hook that echoes long after the record stops. 

Titled with tongue firmly in cheek, ‘HOT PEOPLE MAKE HOT MUSIC’ is the sound of two artists reshaping DIY pop into something explosive and unruly – with songs that feel like group chats on fire, caustic and forever 20 seconds from chaos.

Speaking on the release of the new EP, Emma said:

“Writing this whole EP was really healing for me. I think I went a bit mental for a year there and didn’t really know who I was or what I was doing. Felt like I was running out of time. HOT PEOPLE MAKE HOT MUSIC encapsulates the range of emotions I’ve had due to situations I couldn’t control. It’s depressing, exciting, horny, sexy, and loud. Which I think sums me up as a person too.”

Powered by Emma’s biting, unfiltered lyrics and Sam’s genre-agnostic, club-ready productions (drawing from Skrillex, Porter Robinson, Pluko, and a whole lot of late-night YouTube black holes), samxemma‘s vision feels fully formed: not just collaborators, but co-conspirators in a world of their own.

Formed between Northampton (Sam) and Santa Barbara (Emma), and now based in Manchester – samxemma (pronounced sam-times-emma) released their debut EP ‘Athens’ in 2023. In the time since then, they sold out hometown venue YES in Manchester, were selected as a ReBalance artist by Festival Republic, have performed at The Great Escape, Latitude Festival, Beyond The Music and Kendal Calling, received early press support from Dork (HYPE Cover), Wonderland, Notion, The Line of Best Fit, Popjustice, alongside earning key editorial support from Spotify (Hyperpop, New Pop UK, Planet Rave, NMF).
