Wifisfuneral’s New Video for “Been 2 Hell & Back”
With an appealingly dark aesthetic and a refined sense of lyricism, wifisfuneral is one of the most complete artists to emerge from the bustling South Florida rap scene. Inviting us for a glimpse into his turbulent mental state, wifisfuneral shares “Been 2 Hell & Back,” his latest video. Holing up in his apartment with only a frightening looking, bridal gown-clad doll to keep him company, wifisfuneral wilds out in his new video, energetically bouncing to the music as his eyes glow with purple flame. “Been 2 Hell & Back” is a highlight from Ethernet Vol. 1, wifi’s June mixtape, which has over 43 million streams on Spotify. Certain lyrics from “Been 2 Hell & Back” found their way into wifi’s XXL Freshman Freestyle, which reached #1 on YouTube’s trending chart over the summer.
Faced with fans clamoring for more music after he dropped Ethernet earlier this year, wifi shared the Leave Me The Fuck Alone EP last week. A dark and absorbing collection of four standout tracks, Leave Me The Fuck Alone finds wifi deep into his mental state and unflinchingly reporting what he sees. Wallowing in rich and aqueous sonic worlds created by producers like frequent collaborators Cris Dinero and Henry Daher, the new EP finds wifi mourning lost friends on “Alone as a Facetat,” indulging his pill habit and experimenting with auto-tune in the bouncy “Dangerous,” and flexing his lyrical muscles in “Pain”: “Listen, I was lost a lot/Trapped in hell with no parking spot/No pot to piss, they watched me rot/I was rottin’ in my grave, I thought/But it was back to reality, it kept me soft.” Prior to the EP, wifi shared “Ever Seen a Demon,” a bleak and unsettling banger from the EP that amassed over 300K streams in its first week of release after being included on Apple Music’s Breaking Hip-Hop playlist. Featuring an appearance from beta.files and additional production TNO, Leave Me The Fuck Alone EP is available to stream on wifi’s SoundCloud and on all other DSPs.
An immersive experience equally suited for top-down rides as headphone sessions, Ethernet brings you deep inside the mind of wifisfuneral, as he struggles with his newfound fame, plunges into drug use, and revels in his prodigious talent. Boasting production from wifi’s longtime collaborator Cris Dinero, as well as speaker-knocking instrumentals from the likes of Jahlil Beats, Ronny J, Smash David, and others, Ethernet is wifi’s most diverse project yet, ranging from minor-key Rhodes burbles on “Every Pill In The World,” featuring Uno The Activist, to New Orleans-bounce on the Smash David-featuring single “Juveniles,” which has over 16 million streams on Spotify, to the immersive “LilSkiesFuneral,” which features breakout rapper Lil Skies and racked up over 8.8 million streams on Spotify and 5.41 million plays on SoundCloud. With additional appearances from Brooklyn riser Jay Critch and ATL mainstay Key!, Ethernet comes to you via Alamo Records.
