Written By | Dakota Pendleton

Anton Zaslavski (aka Zedd)’s shows at the Mirage in Brooklyn, Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, and the Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, were announced in the beginning of May. His return to Red Rocks was met with a small rain storm prior to show time. It would add clarity to the surrounding landscapes of one of the most beautiful open venues. Along with the outstanding production of lights and pyrotechnics, the sky was filled with an orange hue of clouds and stars would later light the sky.

Zedd’s Red Rocks show was supported by three other DJs including the Colorado local, Disco Lines, who had recently graduated from CU Boulder. He was all smiles through his whole performance, while his mom, Julie, watched from amongst the crowd. He instructed the whole crowd of Red Rocks to shout “We love you Julie!” as the stage camera captured her joyful reaction.

Following Disco Lines was Audien. The Venue was lit by calm shades of blue as he performed his 2021 single “Blue”. The last opener was Matoma, who animated the crowd by jumping off the mixer table several times as the beat of his songs dropped. All three raised the engagement of the crowd in anticipation of Zedd’s main set.

After a short wait, in between the openers, Zedd emerged onto the second level of the stage, surrounded by the massive screens displaying colorful and immersive imagery. Zedd has stated, in his “Moment of Clarity” documentary, that he is very hands-on with the production of each show. Consisting of various fireworks, flames, laser lights, screen displays, etc; the production is like no other, and the amount of work that goes into each element was apparent. With a huge social media following of 7.5 million on instagram, Zedd stays very active on the platform and took time to capture selfie-style videos and photos of the crowd. He was accompanied by his videographer/photographer for the majority of the show, along with a drone, to capture the performance. As a Grammy winning and top charting artist, Zedd has emphasized the importance of making timeless songs. He performed the hit song, “Clarity” featuring Foxes, that led him to fame in 2012. Seeing and feeling the crowd’s energy towards a song that is over a decade old was a testament to his talent and ability to create the timeless music he strives for.

Following a heavy roster of songs including his hits, “ Stay the Night” featuring Paramore’s Hayley Williams,  “The Middle” featuring Maren Morris, and “I Want You To Know” featuring Selena Gomez, Zedd returned to the stage one last time for a hopeful encore. He thanked the crowd before departing, and the fans were left to a cool evening in the town of Morrison after the visually stunning show.
