KURU SHARES NEW VIDEO FOR “IF IM BEING HONESTT” – VIA DEADAIR

Following the release of their sophomore mixtape Stay true forever, 19-year-old NYC-based rapper and producer kuru has just shared the video for project cut “If im being honestt” — out now via deadAir. Laced with ethereal synths, “If im being honestt” finds kuru floating raw, candid bars (“I think about dying like all the time/But I’m way too pussy to do it”) across the track’s minimalist beat. In addition to their recent appearance in British Vogue for iconic Japanese designer Yasuyuki IshiiStay true forever arrives on the heels of their 2024 debut full-length project, re:wired, a conceptual piece that blended DMV trap, anime, and high fashion into one cohesive aesthetic that went on to earn a 7.1 rating from Pitchfork. But while the outlet hailed re:wired as “a study in emo-aggro duality”kuru’s second full-length project is a fluid, free-flowing outing that serves as a sort of yin to their debut’s yang. On the tape, kuru shares: “I don’t want everyone to have a think piece about me — I just want people to enjoy the music.”

Stay true forever follows singles “I cldnt lie”, which Dazed selected for their “The Only Tracks You Need to Hear from April 2025” list, “2Door”“Somewhere going home”“zzzz”, which was produced by blxty, and the twikipedia-produced “I saw it coming”. Recent months have also seen them collaborate with jackzebra on the celestial, cross-continental link-up “wakeup” and do a show with Frost Children and Oklou in January. Hailing from Maryland, kuru cemented their name while still in high school as a pioneer within the internet rap scene, fusing pop maximalist sensibilities with elements of trap, electronic, and dance. They garnered attention in the underground for a prolific output of solo music and their work with xaviersobased (who they collaborated with on buzzy track “MyAll” from his keep it goin xav tape), Jane Remover, ian, FearDorian, Hi-C, and quinn, before releasing their debut full-length project, re:wired, in November 2024. They also recently performed alongside jackzebra, Lucy Bedroque, and Harto Falión at UCLA’s Sigma Pi Fraternity last month.
