2025 XXL Freshman BabyChiefDoit shares first-ever self-produced video single “WENT WEST”
Fresh off his selection as an XXL 2025 Freshman, his stellar Summer Smash Performance, and being named one of COMPLEX‘s 25 Rappers To Watch In 2025, Chicago phenom BabyChiefDoit has just shared his first-ever self-produced video single “WENT WEST”. The new single, which was premiered at Summer Smash via COMPLEX, is a dynamite stick both in rapping and production –– BabyChiefDoit‘s agile breath control and fiery delivery flash through an inferno of brass and pulse changing bass. Shot at Summer Smash, the accompanying music video finds BabyChiefDoIt turning up to the new track while linking up with Nardwuar, LAZER DIM 700, K3 and others. “WENT WEST” is the first single to arrive since this spring’s mixtape ZOO LIFE, continuing the Chicago teen’s head-turning run of industry shaking moments and releases including “Rich Guys”(feat. Babyfxce E), “Why Would I?” with Florida star Luh Tyler, a recent appearance on PlaqueBoyMax‘s In The Booth stream (which led to the subsequent release of “YN” with Sexyy Red, LAZAR DIM 700, and Baby Kia), a link-up with Jorjiana for the “ILBB2 (We Love BB2)”remix, and solo singles like “yeyeezytunechiweezy” and “Am I Wrong?”. Through it all, BabyChiefDoit has proved he’s more than just a student of drill –– he embodies the genre, making it a part of his identity.

With a steady stream of energetic releases and raw, unfiltered lyricism, BabyChiefDoit has quickly made a name for himself within his city and beyond. Early singles like “The Viper” (90M+ Streams), “6ix Times 2Day”(27M+ Streams), and “Snooze You Lose” (38M+ Streams) laid the groundwork for his grassroots following, drawing attention to his unique sound that bridges the gap between Chicago drill and Southern trap. Tracks like “Look Up” and “EBGDITB” (15M+ Streams) off his 2024 debut mixtape, ANIMALS ONLY, demonstrate his ability to blend chaotic beats with relentless, pedal-to-the-metal raps, while songs like “Drowned” add a layer of emotional depth through his sing-rap delivery. His creative approach, from his apocalyptic beats to his lyrical rawness, have led to collabs with the likes of PlaqueBoyMax and Nino Paid on “Cooln” (17M+ Streams) and Baby Kia for “NEW AGE YN”. As he continues to build his name, BabyChiefDoit is bringing the sound of Chicago to a global audience while staying true to his roots in the process.
