Alice Cooper, even with 60 years of performing, needed no support from any opener for his “Too Close to Comfort” tour. He has performed well over triple the amount of shows that have ever been held at Denver’s Mission Ballroom (opened in 2019). Denver was promptly met with Cooper shredding through a giant newspaper featuring his timeless black streaking eyes titled, “Trial Set For Deeds Against Humanity”. Accompanied by his band, they would all shred through hits like “Poison”, “Feed My Frankenstein”, and even play some unexpected tracks like “Snakebite” accompanied by a live python.

The news headline would later be theatrically acted out as Alice Cooper is detained and decapitated on stage by a towering guillotine following the performance of “The Ballad of Dwight Fry”. His firstborn, Calico Cooper, would play the role of a wicked vampire who would then flaunt the head of her father around the stage as his band continued to rock on.

“I Love the Dead” would be a clever track while the venue awaited Cooper’s return. His band, however, had no issue keeping the crowd alive on their own. The unique, 3 guitar band of, Ryan Roxie, Tommy Henriksen, Nita Strauss (who recently returned to the band after touring for Demi Lovato), bassist Chuck Garric, and drummer Glen Sobel, all proved to go beyond the title of musicians and instead, true rockstars. It was easily seen how much they enjoyed the stage as if they weren’t meant for it.

Alice Cooper would return to perform “Elected”, having us all wonder if Cooper truly might be the fittest for president in this year’s election. Big balloons would be sliced by Cooper’s sword filling the air with confetti and streamers leading into the final songs.

The night would close out with “School’s Out”, fitting for the final days of summer vacation. I got a chance to see Alice Cooper back in 2014 when he opened for Mötley Crüe. I was amazed to see the same heightened spirit a decade later in his full solo set. It seems he has no plans of slowing down either as he is scheduled to kick off a duo tour with Rob Zombie, joined by Ministry and Filter, later this month. He is also still supporting dates of Mötley Crüe and Def Leppard’s World tour. The continued stack of performances and the passion Alice Cooper carries to each show, by no doubt, shows he is a true rock legend.
