Japanese girl group sensation f5ve have released their highly anticipated debut album ‘SEQUENCE 01’, out now via LDH Records / Three Six Zero Recordings. The album also arrives with an official video for new single ‘Sugar Free Venom’ featuring Kesha.

Directed by Charlotte Rutherford (PinkPantheress, Nicki Minaj) and Crystalline Structures Studio (IVE), the video for ‘Sugar Free Venom’ is a sparkling and sensual experience that transports viewers to a dreamlike pink and purple nightclub. Featuring f5ve’s signature sharp choreography that echoes the snake-inspired rap verses, the grimy and trap influenced track draws influence from the Japanese alcohol ‘Habushu’ (snake-infused whisky) and the playful sweetness of Japanese soft drinks. It perfectly captures the duality of being both intoxicatingly sweet and dangerously venomous, celebrating how women can embody softness, spice, sweetness, and strength all at once. The BloodPop® produced track is bolstered by an incredible verse from US pop icon Kesha whose razor sharp lyrics and magnetic delivery elevate the track to another level. The video also features a nod to Kesha singing ‘Die Young’ on the subway in Tokyo back in 2012.

Speaking about ‘Sugar Free Venom’, f5ve said: “When we dance to this song, we feel strength that says it’s okay to be ourselves, even if we’re not perfect. It’s like turning the ‘venom’ inside us into a weapon. This song is packed with the raw, unapologetic power.”

Fittingly arriving on the fifth day of the fifth month, f5ve’s debut album ‘SEQUENCE 01’ is the first sequence of dreams carefully coded by the inter-dimensional Japanese supergroup. Executive produced by Grammy winner BloodPop® (Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber) with additional production from BRITs producer of the year A. G. Cook (Charli xcx, Utada Hikaru), Hudson Mohawke, Count Baldor, AOBeats and a feisty verse from Kesha; the album is a high-energy collision of sonic worlds that propels J-pop into the international spotlight. Across the 11 tracks, f5ve tears up the rulebook, blending dance, rock, funk, and hyperpop with glitchy textures, metallic snares, and multilingual hooks.

From battling the oppressive work culture, magical clocks that can control time, aliens that play gacha games, being as tiny as a ladybug or as big as Tokyo Tower, and simply eating a lot of lettuce, this album is a wacky yet cohesive trip into a nostalgic future where anything is possible. Previous singles like the quirky ‘Magic Clock’, intergalactic banger ‘UFO’, high-energy dance anthem ‘Underground’ and their whimsical debut ‘Lettuce’ all return in full force, now joined by several new dream infused tracks. SEQUENCE 01 is authentic Japanese pop that gives you VIP access into the Japan you wish you knew.

Speaking about the album f5ve said: “This album is filled with songs we love and cherish—we listen to them on repeat! ♡ Creating these songs together with BloodPop was an unforgettable experience that we’ll treasure forever. We’ve broken free from genres, freely mixing diverse elements to bring infinite possibilities—it’s our dream sequence! ★★★★★ We hope this album transcends language and borders and touches hi-5s all over the world! ❤”

To celebrate the release, f5ve are hosting an official album release party in Los Angeles, California on May 17th, 2025, in collaboration with Subculture. The night will feature a full live performance from f5ve (LA debut), along with several DJ sets, including a special two-hour extended B2B set by Underscores and Umru. f5ve will also make their highly anticipated US festival debut on June 27th at Ladyland 2025 in Brooklyn, New York. The group joins the likes of Cardi B, FKA Twigs, Pabllo Vittar and more across the star-studded weekend. Full live dates and tickets are available here: https://www.f5veofficial.com/live.
