Hetta Falzon releases new single ‘The Rabbit Hole’
Rising singer-songwriter Hetta Falzon returns with her new single ‘The Rabbit Hole’, released via Matt Maltese’s Last Recordings On Earth. Hot on the heels of recent track ‘I Hope You Notice Me’, Hetta continues to carve out her soft, soulful world – blending classical harmonies and jazz-tinged melodies with candid, diaristic lyricism.
‘The Rabbit Hole’ is an intimate reflection on spiralling insecurity, charting the quiet panic that surfaces when confidence slips. Built around delicate piano, swelling harmonies and Hetta’s characteristically honest lyrics, the track captures what it feels like to lose sight of yourself in comparison to others – before finding a way back to solid ground. Speaking on the track, Hetta explains:
“Last January, all of my housemates in Manchester were getting into relationships, I didn’t expect it to affect me, I’ve always been independent and very comfortable in being alone, but for some reason I found myself incredibly insecure, comparing myself to everyone around me, and caring so deeply about how people around me perceived me, to the point where walking past someone on Wilmslow Road or hailing down the 42B bus felt like the most exposing thing in the world. I am somewhat an anxious person but I’d never felt like I had anxiety, until then. I knew it could be a side effect of the pill, in which case I could just come of it but also knew it was rooted in insecurity and I was terrified that it might just the way my brain had started to function, it felt like I was going down this rabbit hole and would never find a way out of it. I decided to try coming off the pill and sure enough, things started to go back to normal. (Big W).”
Like her previous work, ‘The Rabbit Hole’ highlights Hetta’s instinct for wrapping vulnerable confessions in intricate but understated arrangements. Her classically rooted, emotionally detailed sound is as much shaped by cello suites and choral harmonies as it is by contemporary songwriting – music that feels truthful, textured and quietly bold.
Raised in Somerset, the 21-year-old grew up immersed in orchestras and school musicals before training classically from the age of six. Now based in Manchester and completing her studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, Hetta’s songwriting has resonated for its emotional clarity, earning her support slots for artists including Billie Marten, Jacob Alon and Searows, as well as her signing to Matt Maltese’s label in 2025.
With influences spanning Sara Bareilles, Norah Jones, and Joni Mitchell, Hetta’s artistry shines through in her refusal to polish away vulnerability. Instead, she invites listeners into music that feels truthful, musically adventurous, and unapologetically personal.
