Hyundai Auto Canada recognized among 2024 Best Workplaces™ for Giving Back

Hyundai Auto Canada (HAC) is proud to announce that it has been named one of the 2024 Best Workplaces™ for Giving Back by Great Place to Work®. The company received the honour following a thorough and independent analysis conducted by Great Place to Work® where at least 90 per cent of HAC team members provided direct feedback on feeling good about the way our organization contributes to the community. This is the latest of six accolades to be awarded to HAC this year by Great Place to Work®.
“At HAC, our daily actions and purpose are directly connected to our brand ethos of ‘Progress for Humanity,’ and we are driven to uplift each other and those around us to create a more equitable and sustainable future,” says Kirk Merrett, director of human resources and administration. “Generating positive impact by serving our community and customers at large is a major point of pride for our team members, who are active contributors to the causes close to their hearts. We strive to provide valuable outcomes, whether it is in our daily work or through community outreach, and we are grateful to be recognized for our efforts by Great Place to Work®.”
Long-term CSR programs
HAC actively partners with various organizations to support youth through multi-year commitments to fund education scholarships with Centennial College, Automotive Business School of Canada (ABSC) and, most recently, the Pinball Clemons Foundation, an organization that supports marginalized and racialized youth through scholarships and mentorship.
HAC is a major advocate for mental health, and prioritizing access to mental health services among youth is a key component of its wider commitment. In June, HAC donated $500,000 to the Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation to support the construction of a new, independent mental health unit dedicated to children and adolescents. It has also partnered with Naseeha Mental Health and Kids Help Phone, which work to support youth mental health through a variety of programs.
Over the years, HAC has been an active partner with 360ºkids, working to help combat youth homelessness and remove the stigma around it by raising funds and providing support vehicles. HAC’s executive team has even participated in the annual 360ºExperience, spending a cold winter’s night on the street during 360ºkids’ signature fundraising event that raises awareness about the harsh realities faced by unhoused youth.

Department Collection and Volun-teaming Day
Each department at HAC has a charity to which they contribute annually through monetary donations and volunteer hours during the work week. Team members are encouraged to take time out of their work schedule to spend a day volunteering together, making a difference while team building. Through the “HAC Gives Back” program, departments are given $1,000 to donate to a charity of their choice and the donation is matched by the company. Every summer, HAC also holds a walking challenge and, in 2023, the challenge raised a total of $15,500 for a variety of charitable organizations.
Employee Resource Group (ERG) Charities
Part of HAC’s corporate diversity, equity and inclusion practices is encouraging our three employee resource groups to do in-house fundraising and donation drives for meaningful causes that align with their mission statements. Team members are encouraged to run these activities during the work week, leading by example.
Hyundai Canada was first certified as a Great Place to Work® in 2017 and has consistently been listed among Canada’s Best Workplaces™ every year since.
