Ice Spice Brings a Taste of New York to Denver’s Fillmore Auditorium

Written and Captured By | Dakota Pendleton

Ice Spice, Isis Gaston, tours her debut album, Y2K, already carrying several hits with her. Only starting to release music in 2021 she has worked her way to the top charts and even accompanied Time Magazine’s “Person of the Year”, Taylor Swift, to this year’s past Super Bowl. The friendship would follow them performing together during Swift’s The Eras World Tour. Ice Spice quickly jumped to superstardom after the release of “Munch (Feelin’ U)” which would grab the attention of rapper Drake and eventually the masses of TikTok and social media.

She wasn’t done there though, she would continue to put out hits like “Princess Diana (Featuring Nicki Minaj)” and “Deli”. Beyond the New York Drill Rap feel, Ice Spice incorporates aesthetics of the big city in her visuals and lyrics. Featuring a subway scene on the cover of the Y2K album, she continues with visuals of subway trains and city scenes behind her on stage. With how big of an influence her music has had in the past few years Ice Spice’s set would rightly feature a giant blow-up caricature of her that would breach the rafters of the Fillmore Auditorium.

The Y2K Tour is supported by artist Cash Cobain and Producer RIOTUSA. RIOTUSA is also credited with Ice Spice’s rise to fame as her main producer. The iconic producer tagline “Stop playing with them Riot”, spoken by Ice Spice, is heard among many intros of her songs. RIOTUSA would also surprise Denver’s audience and bring out artist Cleotrapa to perform with him.

Fans would fill the auditorium with pink Ice Spice American flags, iconic outfits she’s worn, and even a few curly ginger wigs impersonating her classic hair look. They seemed unbothered waiting in between sets as they spent the time dancing, and as Ice Spice would put it, they would “shake it like jelly”.

Ice Spice would return the favor by bringing a similar energy of her music videos to the concert stage. Joined by several backup dancers she would open with “Popa” off Y2K and close the night with the fan favorite, “Think You The Shit (Fart)”. The debut tour has 7 remaining dates after Denver’s stop and will wrap up in Miami Beach, FL as Ice Spice concludes a new milestone in her music career.
