ONE LAST TIME: AN EVENING WITH TONY BENNETT AND LADY GAGA RECIEVES FOUR PRIME-TIME EMMY NOMINATIONS INCLUDING OUTSTANDING VARIETY SPECIAL (Pre-Recorded)
Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga’s prime-time special for CBS Television Network, ONE LAST TIME: AN EVENING WITH TONY BENNETT & LADY GAGA, received four prime-time Emmy nominations including Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded). The special had its premiere broadcast on November 28, 2021 and was filmed at two sold out shows at Radio City Music Hall in August 2021 to celebrate Bennett’s 95th birthday. In addition to Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded), ONE NIGHT ONLY: AN EVENING WITH TONY BENNETT & LADY GAGA was also nominated for Outstanding Music Direction, Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video Control For A Special, and Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction for a Variety Special.
The live concerts brought together these two incredible entertainers performing duets and solo songs honoring their shared love of the Great American Songbook. The musical repertoire for the special highlights the ten years of Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga’s association, from their first duet recording “Lady Is A Tramp” to selections from their two collaborative albums, Cheek To Cheek and their most recent Grammy-winning album, Love For Sale.
The special also highlighted an incredibly inspiring backstory as it marked what would become Bennett’s final public concert performance, having announced that he was diagnosed in 2016 with Alzheimer’s. Lady Gaga spoke of the experience with Anderson Cooper for 60 Minutes shortly after the filming, “I wasn’t sure if he knew who I was…. when that music comes on, something happens to him, he knows exactly what he’s doing. When I walked out on that stage and he said, ‘It’s Lady Gaga!” – my friend saw me and it was very special.”
