SEBASTIÁN YATRA CELEBRATED AS RIAA HONORS ‘ARTIST OF THE YEAR’
Multi-talented, Colombian singer-songwriter Sebastián Yatra (@SebastianYatra) was awarded “Artist Of The Year” at the annual 2023 RIAA Honors held last night in Washington, DC. In a touching video introduction, industry and celebrity remarks from the likes of John Legend and Lin-Manuel Miranda were shared in front of an intimate audience of industry and policymakers.
During the ceremony Sebastián Yatra performed a trio of of fan-favorite songs; starting with his touching ballad “Un Año” into a surprise performance of “Dos Oruguitas”, followed by his smash hit “Tacones Rojos,” which brought the audience to their feet and won Yatra a Latin GRAMMY last year. The evening affair closed with the beautiful “Icon” award acceptance speech from Gloria Estefan, who thanked Sebastián for his contributions to the expansion of the genre into the mainstream.
Yatra was also surprised with two additional RIAA certified Platinum® plaques: 5x Latin Platinum® for his Latin GRAMMY winning album “Dharma” and a second for the Platinum® single “Dos Oruguitas” from Disney’s Encanto. These certifications follow the Latin Platinum® plaque for “VAGABUNDO” from his current musical project. Famed media personality Gayle King announced the certification live on CBS Mornings while Yatra was in New York for a US Open partnership which saw him win a match on the courts with Carlos Alcaraz and Jimmy Butler (NBA).
If that’s not all, the 2x Latin GRAMMY award winner also nabbed another Latin GRAMMY nomination for 2023, bringing the genre-blending music maker to an impressive 14 career nominations. This year, the multi-talented composer nabs the nominations for “Best Pop Song” for “Contigo” following an evening of major accolades last night at the RIAA Honors and a recent single release, “Energía Bacana.” These recent accolades continue to prove Yatra’s status as a leader in Latin music.
