Senator Amy Klobuchar and Colorado Educators Host Writing and Organizing Workshop

ak

Yesterday, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar joined Colorado State Senator Nancy Todd and members of the Colorado Education Association and American Federation of Teachers-Colorado for a virtual writing and organizing workshop. Klobuchar emphasized the importance of lifting up educators during this pandemic and the importance of mobilizing Coloradans on behalf of Joe Biden in November. Following Senator Klobuchar’s remarks, educators participated in a letter-to-the-editor training.

“This pandemic has really shown once again that teachers are the fabric that holds our country together,” said Senator Amy Klobuchar. “Educators deserve a partner in the White House. With a President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, you get two. They understand education isn’t just what they do — it’s who they are. As you all know, Jill is a lifelong educator. She understands the everyday challenges that teachers face and with Dr. Biden as your First Lady, you’ll have a true champion and advocate in the White House.”

“As the Vice President has been saying, we’ve pulled together to overcome every crisis in our history and there is no reason and no question that this nation has the will and expertise to defeat this one now,” said State Senator Nancy Todd.

“Instead of providing hope for our educators, [Betsy DeVos] is shamefully spending this time to find ways to divert funding away from our already-starving public schools,” Amie Baca-Oehlert, President, Colorado Education Association. “It brings me hope to see over 150 educators and union members coming together today – on a Saturday – to attend a virtual training to ensure we do all we can do to elect a new president. How wonderful will it be to have a president who respects and values public education and educators, and a president who will put an actual educator as Secretary of Education.”

“While we know Donald Trump isn’t responsible for COVID, he is absolutely responsible for people who have lost their economic security and 86,000 that have lost their lives,” Kallie Leyba, President, American Federation of Teachers, Colorado. “What we need now is Joe Biden’s steady hand, experience, and empathy, which stands in stark contrast to Donald Trump’s chaotic, self-involved mismanagement.”
