Song Review: Rapper Bo Blitz shares exhilarating new track ‘Starlight’

Shared as his last song of 2023 and his primer for the year ahead, ‘Starlight’ is Bo Blitz’s ode to fame, fortune, and the hedonism of Hollywood.

San Francisco rapper Bo Blitz is already in a celebratory mood as 2024 gets underway – and it shows on his recently released new single, ‘Starlight.’

‘Starlight’ was shared in late December 2023, with Blitz dropping the song and music video as a lovely Christmas present for his fans.

This latest single was the last in a string of bangers that Bo Blitz released throughout 2023. In the past 12 months, Bo Blitz has been particularly productive, with the rapper sharing some of his most promising singles to date, including ‘Starships 2030’, ‘I.L.Y.A,’ ‘Without You,’ ‘Talk To Me Nicely,’ ‘What It Do’, and ‘How You Doing.’

Starlight’ is Bo Blitz at his best. The song sees him combine smooth R&B beats with relentless, bouncing rap verses. As his previous songs have shown, Blitz truly has mastery over his delivery. The listener can vibe at every turn with his flow, cadence, and ingenious wordplay.

Thematically, ‘Starlight’ hones in on the joys and excesses that come with fame. The song lies somewhere between being a Weeknd track and a My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy-era Kanye West track – so it makes for great listening.

The lyric video, which accompanied the song’s official release on December 22, gives an insight into ‘Bo Blitz the Wordsmith.’ Against a backdrop of red carpets and flashing lights, we’re able to understand better his lyrics, which are always filled to the brim with euphemisms, in-jokes, and double meanings (“Firm grip and the abs tight with every thrust/When I crush/That’d turn your frame into stardust”).

The Rapid Rise of Bo Blitz

The last two years have seen Bo Blitz emerge as one of the most promising US rappers.

The artist previously said he spent most of his life hustling small gigs and bar room open mics to get by, even as he always kept up his love for making music.

Only in 2022 – after Blitz took it upon himself to learn more about the music industry – did he gain the recognition he rightly deserved. Things moved quickly for Bo, and he began working with several notable producers in 2023. He got production assistance on several of his tracks from the likes of “Cosmo” from Wiz Khalifa’s Tailor Gang, and he always got the chance to work with “Anno Domini” from Anno Domination.

Bo Blitz’s stature as an artist grew with each relationship he forged. He already had the lyrics and the voice, but now, finally, he had an ever-growing audience who wanted to hear it. As it stands, Bo is up to 12,000 average monthly listeners, and his numbers game will only continue to rise.

The artist’s future is shining bright like starlight
