The Chiefs secure their 14th victory of the season with a 27-19 win over the Texans

The Kansas City Chiefs triumphed over the Houston Texans, 27-19, on Saturday, securing their 14th win of the season through a comprehensive team effort.
Kansas City scored on five of their eight true offensive drives, while the defense forced two turnovers, showcasing one of their best all-around performances this year.
“Overall, I thought this was our best game offensively, defensively, and on special teams,” said Head Coach Andy Reid. Despite an ankle injury from the previous week, quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed 28 of 41 passes for 260 yards and a touchdown, and also rushed for 33 yards and a score. His rushing touchdown, a 15-yard scramble, capped an 11-play, 66-yard opening drive.
“I knew I could run. Stopping was the hard part,” Mahomes said. “Once I got running, I saw the end zone and just tried to get in there… Just trying to play football at the end of the day.” Mahomes’ touchdown gave the Chiefs an early lead, but Houston responded with 10 unanswered points. Kansas City then executed a 13-play, 82-yard drive, ending with a 3-yard touchdown run by Kareem Hunt.
The drive featured three third-down conversions, including a 20-yard pass to wide receiver Hollywood Brown, who made his season debut after missing 14 games due to a shoulder injury. Brown caught five passes for 45 yards, including a crucial 12-yard reception on fourth down during the opening scoring drive.
“I thought he did a great job,” Mahomes said. “He was a few throws away from a really big game. It’s about getting him the ball and building his confidence. He did great, and we’ll involve him more as the season progresses.” Brown’s contributions led to Hunt’s go-ahead touchdown late in the second quarter. Although the Texans closed the gap to one point early in the third quarter, Kansas City maintained their lead for the rest of the game.

The Chiefs added a field goal before halftime and later completed a 10-play, 80-yard drive with an 8-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Xavier Worthy. Worthy had a standout day, catching seven passes for 65 yards and a touchdown.
“It’s been a few games now where he can do all the things he did on Saturday,” Reid said. “We feel good about that.” Worthy’s touchdown extended Kansas City’s lead to eight points at the start of the fourth quarter. Despite a Texans’ field goal narrowing the deficit to five points with under 12 minutes left, Houston didn’t score again.
Kansas City responded with a field goal on their next possession, and a sack by cornerback Joshua Williams on third down forced a Texans’ punt, allowing the Chiefs to run out the clock.
Injuries included defensive lineman Chris Jones (calf strain), offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor (knee strain), and linebacker Jack Cochrane (fractured ankle), who all left the game early.
The Chiefs now prepare for a Christmas Day matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
