Tracey release new single ‘Sleazy’
Tracey – who are fast becoming one of the most mythologised groups to emerge from London’s underground – release new single ‘Sleazy’. Fly-on-the-wall, school gossip is distorted with sugar-spike production: hiccuping garage beats and Dance Dance Revolution flourishes hit like popping candy for the ears. It’s a new flavour from the collective who know exactly how to fill the floor.
Brought to life with a video which moves at warp speed through an internet’s worth of references, it’s the perfect cut-and-paste collage to match the spirit of Tracey themselves. With fortune cookie wisdom, Princess Peach, rollies, Gameboy consoles and stripper heels – ‘Sleazy’ is an entire culture contained in minutes.
Their self-titled debut EP released earlier this summer announced the scale of Tracey’s ambition: underground electronics in a head-on collision with hip-hop; mind-altering ambience meeting warped reimaginings of contemporary RnB. Theirs is a sound which is as limitless in its influences as the city which brought them together.
Their firebrand debut single ‘Sex Life’ – a murky, dubstep-fuelled floor filler which calls on a verse from East London MC Riko Dan – commanded the attention of BBC 6 Music and 1Xtra, and tastemakers including The Fader, The Line of Best Fit and CRACK. Invitations to support Sam Akpro and perform alongside Mura Masa soon followed, crowned with a since-legendary release party at Ormside Projects with entry via texting Tracey’s phone number (+44739901072) only.
Tracey is a London-based band formed in 2024, centered around two core members and joined by a rotating cast of musicians for their live performances. Their music is a blend of the fresh and the familiar, drawing from underground electronic pioneers, contemporary R&B, and an eclectic range of influences—Kylie Minogue to Skream, Crystal Castles to Colourbox, and beyond.
