GLOBAL PRODUCER AND ARTIST SPINALL UNLEASHES NEW JAZZ EP ‘WHEN LAGOS SLEEPS’ !
World-renowned and history-making DJ SPINALL, the ever-genre curious DJ and producer known as the first Nigerian DJ to ever play his own Coachella set, has embarked on his latest alluring quest: a new, five-track jazz EP titled WHEN LAGOS SLEEPS.
The instrumental project is void of the guest vocals that usually decorate SPINALL’s soundtracks, as well as the Afrobeats music they are usually an homage to. Instead, WHEN LAGOS SLEEPS is a full immersion into SPINALL’s jazz sensibilities paying homage to his hometown in Nigeria while showcasing a rarely-seen side of the multi-faceted artist, whose palate as a musician is as broad as his global DJ appeal.
In addition to his new project, SPINALL has also unleashed the official dates for his upcoming headlining tour, The Motion Tour. Tickets are on sale today.
“‘When Lagos Sleeps’ was born in the quiet hours, the moments when the noise settles, the traffic fades, and the city finally exhales,” SPINALL says of his latest musical venture “In those late-night spaces, I found a version of Lagos that often goes unnoticed. A softer Lagos. A reflective Lagos. A Lagos that feels like a whispered conversation with yourself.”
True to the context SPINALL provides, WHEN LAGOS SLEEPS uses its succinct runtime of 12 minutes to offer a subdued, contemplative musical pace, with booming bass strings, saxophone wails and hand percussion as its metronome. In his own words, SPINALL has always considered jazz as a vessel for storytelling in his music, and on WHEN LAGOS SLEEPS he finds a home for what he calls “an extension of my sound.” And though the EP was crafted during what SPINALL calls Lagos’s “quiet hours,” its impact was felt loudly. SPINALL was recently spotted in Los Angeles previewing the project for some of the music industry’s biggest heavyweights: Mary J. Blige, Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine.
SPINALL, known for his enthralling live performances, will once again hit the international stage on his upcoming headlining tour, The Motion Tour 2026. The eight-date trek begins in Toronto on April 24, and includes stops in Vancouver, Chicago, D.C., and Seattle en route to its closing night in Boston on May 24. Ticket information is available here.
