Maserati’s illustrious racing heritage is embodied in the MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda, two Special Series vehicles crafted to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Trident’s triumphant return to racing in 2004 with the iconic MC12, after a 37-year hiatus.
The MC12, initially introduced as a road car, left an indelible mark on the racetrack, setting a new standard in GT championships and serving as the inspiration for the Maserati MC20 super sports car.
The MC20, entirely made in Italy, heralded a new era for Maserati in 2020 as the first model to be equipped with the groundbreaking V6 Nettuno engine.
The two MC20 Special Series, each limited to 20 units, boast unique liveries and exclusive content inspired by the MC12 Stradale and MC12 GT1 Vitaphone liveries.
The Maserati MC20 Icona’s livery pays homage to one of Maserati’s most iconic models: the MC12 Stradale. Its colors mirror those of its 2004 predecessor, a nod to the Maserati Trofeo Light’s style when it competed in the 24 Hours of Daytona. This was the first car inspired by the Maserati Birdcage Type 61, produced between 1959 and 1961.

The MC20 Icona incorporates several features from the Fuoriserie Personalisation Program into its Bianco Audace Matte and Blu Stradale livery, including exclusive details for sophisticated customization. The Maserati Fuoriserie logo in Bianco Audace is prominently displayed on the side of the livery, near the rear wheels, with the Italian flag logo positioned on the door beneath the MC20 lettering.
The chrome-plated wheels, featuring a specific Trident design, have silver hubcaps with a contrasting blue Trident logo. The brake calipers are also painted blue, the mirrors come with an auto-dimming feature, and the engine cover is made of carbon fiber.
The MC20 Leggenda, true to its name, sports a livery in Nero Essenza and Digital Mint Matte, echoing the distinctive colors of the award-winning MC12 GT1 under the Vitaphone Racing team. This car achieved the remarkable feat of securing three victories and two runner-up placements in the 24 Hours of Spa.
The MC20 Leggenda’s Fuoriserie features include Trident wheels in Nero Lucido with Nero Opaco and Trident Digital Mint hubcaps; a yellow Trident logo on the grille, doors, and C-pillar; and black-painted brake calipers.
The Fuoriserie package for both special series is rounded off with racing interiors: lightweight 4-way monocoque racing seats with the central section in Nero/Blu on a silver background for Icona, or in Nero on a silver background for Leggenda. The headrests are embroidered with the Trident logo and the words “Icona” or “Leggenda,” depending on the model.

A badge reading “ICONA. UNA DI 20” or “LEGGENDA. UNA DI 20” adorns the cover over the powerful Nettuno engine.
Both cars’ interiors also feature the sophisticated Sonus faber sound system. Other shared features include the carbon fiber interior package, electronic limited-slip differential (E-LSD), suspension lifter, blind stop and rear cross path systems, and mats in the front and boot.
The MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda celebrate the 20th anniversary of a golden era for the Trident on the racetrack, marked by the legendary MC12 GT1. Between 2004 and 2010, it claimed 27 victories in the FIA GT Championships, thrice earning a place on the roll of honor of the 24 Hours of Spa, and won six Teams’ championships with Vitaphone Racing and five Drivers’ championships, including two FIA GT1 World Championships, as well as two Constructors’ championships for Maserati.
In 2004, the MC12 Stradale, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and powered by a Ferrari-derived 12-cylinder engine, rekindled Maserati’s racing passion. It remains the fastest production car Maserati has ever produced, with a top speed of 330 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 in 3.8 seconds. Only 50 units were made.

Today, the MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda embody the legacy of those triumphs and the spirit of a car that epitomized Maserati’s sporting DNA and commitment to excellence, symbolizing a passing of the baton.
