Pianist & Wellness Expert Chad Lawson Releases New Album ‘hush’
Pianist and composer, Chad Lawson, releases hush, his most restrained album to date, via Decca Records US. Shaped by silence, restraint and what remains after the last note, the ten-track album was written for the end of a day that took more than it gave. It does not ask the listener to slow down, to focus, or to do anything at all. It is, in Lawson’s words, a place.
Accompanying the full album release is the video to, “the gentle undoing.” Visually, the video unfolds with a quiet sense of restoration and renewal. From the intimacy and darkness of a bedroom into the openness of a sunlit woodland, the video captures the album’s journey toward lightness and calm.
The album title, hush, came while listening back to an orchestral take in the control room at London’s Angel Studios. As the final note faded, the room went completely still, where, for a few moments, no one spoke. Lawson became fascinated by what remained after the music had ended. “It was as if a hush entered the room,” he says. “And I knew right then that this was the album telling me what it wanted to be.” That feeling became the organizing principle for hush, a musical work rooted in space, silence and restraint. Built around sparse melodies and spacious harmonies, it reflects Lawson’s belief that music can be as powerful in what it leaves unsaid as in what it expresses.
Rather than music that demands attention, Lawson set out to “make a place, somewhere you could go at the end of a day that took more than it gave. This is the quietest thing I’ve ever made, and probably the most honest, because it’s where I finally stopped trying to impress anyone and let myself just be who I am.”
A Billboard chart-topping Steinway Artist and internationally acclaimed pianist and composer, Lawson’s music has become closely associated with sleep, focus and emotional wellbeing, having been streamed more than 1.35 billion times, including 272.7 million streams in 2025 alone. NPR has called his music “an invitation to decompress,” while Variety recognized him among the artists who “lead the wave of music for slumber and relaxation.” He currently has two albums charting on Billboard’s Classical Albums chart.
Beyond his musical work, Lawson is the creator and host of the Calm It Down podcast, an iHeart Radio Award-nominated and Webby Award-honored podcast exploring mental health, meditation and breathwork, soundtracked by Lawson’s music. The podcast has received more than seven million downloads.
Lawson is the current World Federation for Mental Health Representative to the WHO Regional Office for the Americas (2025–2027), a former UN Ambassador for the World Federation for Mental Health, and a Yoga Alliance-certified breathwork educator. His music has been released in alignment with World Mental Health Day, World Sleep Day, National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and the International Day of Hope, underscoring a career that uniquely bridges music and global wellbeing advocacy.
