On the evening of September 15th, Switchfoot, an alt-rock band from San Diego, CA graced Toronto’s History with support of indie rock artist, Lostboycrow. The night was filled with a blend of nostalgia and fresh energy, demonstrating why Switchfoot remains a cornerstone of alternative rock.
Kicking off the night, Lostboycrow, brought some set props onto the stage. One of the props was a campfire with an orange flameless candle placed in front of him. This definitely set the mood for the music he was about to play for Toronto. Lostboycrow started off with singing a cover by The Cranberries, a beautiful song called “Linger” which led into his song, “November Sleep.” He also performed one of his latest releases, “Discount Dreamer” and ended his set by playing two new songs. He told Toronto that he had just recently written these two last songs and it would be his first time performing them live. Lostboycrow thanked Toronto and left the stage, fans then eagerly awaited for Switchfoot.

From the moment the lights dimmed and the first notes of “Ammunition” rang out, the audience was enthralled. The band’s frontman, Jon Foreman, captivated the crowd with his signature blend of incredible stage presence and heartfelt delivery. His voice, both powerful and tender, effortlessly navigated through the band’s “The Beautiful Letdown” album.
A key highlight of the night was the band’s interaction with their fans. During the second song, “This Is Your Life,” Foreman stood on the barricade rail and sang with the audience. He was holding hands with fans in the crowd as he sang the lyrics. Also noteworthy was their performance of “Twenty-Four” where Foreman again jumped into the audience, but this time had a stool in the middle of the crowd. He performed the song at the centre of the venue with fans surrounding him. The band truly made each song performed feel like a shared experience, creating a genuine connection with their fans.

Although the setlist was mainly from “The Beautiful Letdown” album, the band also performed fan favourites like “Stars” and “Dark Horses.” Also, every night of the tour, the band is taking fan request songs from the audience. This night, two brothers, their father and a friend were welcomed on stage and requested the song “Company Car.” They stood behind Foreman as he sang their requested song. The Toronto crowd was swaying back and forth to the lyrics of the song. The band performed another fan request, “Oh! Gravity.,” and then ended the night with their encore song “Where I Belong.”
Switchfoot‘s show was truly a memorable experience—it reinforced their status as an impactful force in the alternative rock music scene. If you did not know who the band was going into the show, you would have surely left the show never forgetting their name. The tour has only just begun and you do not want to miss it, to put it simply—you will not be letdown.
