TRUENO EMBARKS ON A HIP HOP JOURNEY WITH NEW ALBUM EL ÚLTIMO BAILE
Journeying through the past for inspiration while looking into the future, Trueno has thoroughly depicted the generational and cultural impact of hip hop on today’s music globally, with a deep-seated understanding of the genre from a very young age. Today, the extensive wait for the rapper’s anticipated third studio album ‘EL ÚLTIMO BAILE’ is over.
Where hard-edged verses and avant-garde production prevail, ‘EL ÚLTIMO BAILE’ is a powerful reminder that hip hop is very much thriving in international cultures. Trueno goes back in time and spins his own interpretation of the genre into an entity of its own, paying homage to the works of its unforgettable predecessors. Nodding to a few of hip hop’s most recognizable artworks [Lil Wayne, Tha Carter III; Nas, Illmatic; The Notorious B.I.G., Ready to Die], the album’s cover sees a younger version of the star, embellished with fundamental elements of today’s Trueno.

There are plenty of genres that seep from the album’s overall sound, including trap, R&B, and elements of reggaeton. All the while, Trueno’s essence is audibly alive and thriving throughout. “Ayo I keep it real, esto es lo que representó,” Trueno affirms on the album intro. “A todos los raperos que forman parte del cuento” (To all of the rappers that take part in this story), he toasts, paying his respects on the 40 second opener. Taking on an innovative approach to open the floodgates, “PLO PLO!” is a brazen trap experiment that fluctuates between the highs and lows of tempo, exhibiting Trueno’s explosive lyrical prowess as rapid fire verses roll off of his tongue with ease. Unfolding a culturally enriched playlist, Trueno taps into groovy Afrobeats with the dembow-tinged “COMO ANTES” and “PULL UP!”, a reggae gem that features scattered Sean Paul adlibs. On “REAL GANGSTA LOVE,” Trueno morphs into a hopeless “OG” romantic, melting his suave penmanship over a sensual bassline, reminiscent of a classic R&B groove.
“‘EL ÚLTIMO BAILE’ is an album devoted to hip hop – the culture. To me, this album holds a lot of importance as we enter 2024. Last year was the 50th anniversary of this beautiful culture and I feel it’s an impressive time for a culture, but for me it’s just the beginning,” Trueno shares. “With the album, I try to expand a different concept through each track with a musical genre that has been part of this culture. It’s a journey through certain eras, certain decades of hip hop and the genres that emerged from it – that is where the concept was born. I want to offer a little celebration for the people during a time that was perhaps socially and economically critical. Like many of us in Latin America.”
Exploring the depths of his own craft throughout the LP, Trueno puts into play his musical exploration, and the result: an impressive, multifaceted body of work that perfectly encapsulates the magnitude of his artistic capacity. “NIGHT” is a standout trap anthem that experiments with distorted synthesizers and shines a light on a more vocally inclined Trueno. Ripping a scene straight out of Blade Runner, “CUANDO EL BAJO SUENA” transports listeners into a retro-futuristic realm, displaying a confident Trueno spitting verses over a pulsing synthwave bassline. “LA NOTA” is a showcase for Trueno’s chameleon-like abilities as his voice melts into the alternating tempos, bright synths, and throbbing percussion. On the speculated continuation of the star’s “RAIN” trilogy, “RAIN III” reveals a self-assured and matured Trueno, rapping over nostalgic hip hop keys and gospel choirs. The beloved album closer is the perfect culmination of a carefully crafted opus that truly delves into the phenomenon’s genius mind – promising to stand the test of time.
“I have so many references, so many facets within the album because hip hop as a movement goes through many musical genres, allowing me to express a lot of versions of my personality and many emotions within myself.” – Trueno
In its repertoire, ‘EL ÚLTIMO BAILE’ also includes previously released singles “NO CAP,” “OHH BABY,” “TRANKY FUNKY,” and “THE ROOF IS ON FIRE.”
Trueno is a testament of the universal importance of hip hop – bridging the gap between Latin America and the genre’s origin in the USA. ‘EL ÚLTIMO BAILE’ places the breakthrough global star at the top of his game, catapulting him into the big leagues and beyond – forever etching his name in hip hop history.
“‘EL ÚLTIMO BAILE’ is the album of celebration, while still saying everything I feel with each song. It’s an escape from reality for people who need it, from the neighborhood for the neighborhood.”
