DANNY BROWN SHARES VIDEO FOR “Y.B.P” FEATURING BRUISER WOLF
Legendary Detroit rapper, hip-hop experimentalist, and cultural trailblazer Danny Brown shares a new video for “Y.B.P” featuring Bruiser Wolf from his recently released and critically heralded sixth studio album, Quaranta—out now digitally, with physical releasing this Friday via Warp Records. “Y.B.P” delves into the gritty realities and hurdles encountered by those navigating the streets of Detroit. Brown and Bruiser exchange stark bars, showcasing a vivid sonic narrative of the tribulations and resiliency of their community. Brought to life in its accompanying video directed by animator Will Child and Edem Wornoo, the song unfolds as Brown dichotomizes humanity and claymation, skillfully portraying his and Bruiser’s shared journey growing up in Detroit’s inner city. In a rebellious twist, the visual depicts Brown and Wolf dressed as a pack of wolves engaging in a string of robberies and wreaking havoc across the city.
Additionally, Danny Brown has announced an extension of his 24-stop North America tour into Europe in late spring. The North America tour kicks off on March 12th in Boston, Massachusetts and will include stops in New York City, Los Angeles, Toronto, Atlanta, and many more, before wrapping up in Nashville at the Brooklyn Bowl. TheEuropean leg of the tour begins May 7th in Oslo, Norway and concludes in Paris on June 5th. For more information and ticket purchasing, please visit: https://dannybrown.warp.net/live.
A spiritual bookend to his breakout album XXX andmeditative follow-up to this year’s critically acclaimed collaboration album SCARING THE HOES with JPEGMAFIA, Quaranta finds Brown as the most fully realized version of himself. The album features masterful and enrapturing production from some of his most trusted collaborators, including DJ and producer SKYWLKR, The Alchemist, Quelle Chris, Paul White and the Bruiser Brigade crew, and lyrical contributions from Bruiser Wolf and MIKE. Quaranta is coming to vinyl for the first time onJanuary 19th via Warp Records with pre-orders available now at: https://dannybrown.warp.net/.
Releasing new music is a cornerstone of several significant changes in Brown’s life thus far. Most notably, Brown recently relocated from his hometown of Detroit to Austin, Texas where he’s living a sober life and tapes his comedy podcast The Danny Brown Show with YMH Studios. Featuring guest appearances from friends and co-collaborators likeJPEGMAFIA, Hannibal Buress, Adam Ray, Ali Macofsky, Logic, and Code Orange’s Jami Morgan, The Danny Brown Show reveals Brown’s humanity while also giving him a platform to allow his sharp sense of humor to run wild. In the most recent episode of his podcast, he is joined by the artists, producers, and mixers, Kassa Overall, Mario C, Bruiser Wolf, MIKE, Skywlkr, and more to discuss collaborating on Quaranta.
Since trailblazing into the hip-hop scene with XXX, released on Fool’s Gold in 2011, Danny Brown has whipped ravers into frenzies across the world, appeared on late night TV, worked with some of the biggest names in music and donned multiple magazine covers along the way. He’s bridged old and new-school rap royalty (collabs from Earl Sweatshirt to Q-Tip to Kendrick Lamar) and linked with the most grailed underground electronic record labels. And most remarkably, he has done all this while remaining inexplicably himself; never veering too far one way or another, or bothering to explain how he maintains balance.
At the end of 2023, Brown bid farewell with his 10th and final Bruiser Thanksgiving celebration. This annual concert, a testament to Brown’s curation skills, brought together a diverse array of musicians, spanning across generations and genres, in celebration of Detroit’s vibrant creative community. From Lil B, Joey Badass, Sada Baby, Zach Fox, MIKE, Omar S, Valee, DJ Assault, HiTech, JohnFM, ZelooperZ, JLin and many more, the festival served as a cultural landmark, echoing the essence of Detroit’s legacy in music. Following Bruiser Thanksgiving, Brown transitioned to more intimate settings, gracing New York, London, and Los Angeles with shows that unveiled a more introspective facet, seamlessly blending somber moments with his timeless, raucous hits that initially catapulted him to stardom.
