On a windy Monday night, artists Freddie Dredd and Pouya woke up the city of Los Angeles with their raw energy for their “They Could Never Make Me” tour at the classic venue, The Wiltern. With both their styles being quite distinct, Pouya’s underground fast-flow/Southern rap sound and Freddie Dredd’s exceptional eerie and lo-fi influences created the perfect balance for all fans to reach a high chaotic energy.
The night began with long wait lines dragging all the way across Wilshire Blvd down to Oxford Ave with some fans even coming all the way from San Diego. At The Wiltern, the untamed energy from fans to see some of their favorite artists was undeniable. Freddie Dredd’s set caused the crowd to become restless as he had an ideal blend of heavy bass and hypnotic loops including some of his most popular songs “GTG” “Devil’s Work” and “Cha Cha.” He created an inclusive experience with his fans as they all sang along through his entire set. Freddie’s aggressive high-pitched delivery throughout his songs amplified the suspenseful energy for Pouya to come out next. Security was on the top of their game as they knew this crowd had the potential to get out of control.
During Pouya’s set, amped-up fans were moshing, passing out and also experienced a fight between two girls. Although this may sound intense, there was no doubt the security had things covered for everyone to still feel safe and taken care of. As Pouya saw the unpredictable behavior of the crowd, he began cultivating a flawless mix of comedic and rebellious but refined energy.
Pouya performed all of the classics that fans favor such as “Runnin’ Thru the 7th with My Woadies,” “$outh $ide $uicide,” and “Mood Swing Misery,” while also hyping up the crowd by performing some of his latest releases from his most recent album, “Suicidal Thoughts in the Back of the Cadillac, Pt. 3.” Despite it being a typical Monday night, Pouya evoked the feeling as if it was just the beginning of the weekend. He was unstoppable by performing a prolonged set as he could tell the crowd couldn’t get enough. By bringing out the well-respected artist Fat Nick out for a couple of songs, the crowd was in a complete frenzy of unfiltered energy.
As the night ended with him expressing his appreciation to his fans for being such a raw vibrance, the lingering adrenaline was still settling within each person of the crowd. The lights all went out as he walked off stage and all you could do was hear the crowd endlessly cheering.
