FLATLAND CAVALRY’S FIFTH FULL-LENGTH STUDIO ALBUM WORK OF HEART

On their anticipated fifth studio album Work of Heart, available everywhere, Lost Highway’s Flatland Cavalry broadens their sonic horizons while keeping a clear, firm grasp on their foundational and endearing sound – easy on the ears, heavy on the heart.

“This album is a collection of songs of life, love, and loss [that were] collected over a season of living, learning, and growing,” says Flatland frontman and lyricist Cleto Cordero. “My approach has been the same the whole time in the sense of showing up to write a song with all my heart, my mind, and soul.”

The Texas-bred outfit returned to Matchbox Studios in Austin, TX last year with producer Dwight A. Baker (Brandi Carlile, Josh Abbott Band) and emerged with a collection of stargazing slow dances, small town heartbreakers, and long solo walks that illuminate the most treasured corners of the human experience.

Imbued with the spirit of West Texas, frontman Cleto Cordero’s lyricism weaves and wanders with a warm sense of character and charm across 12 tracks, blending gentle courage, graceful tact, and sweet melancholia. Work of Heart rejoices in the magic of the present.

“I think music can do that to us. It can force us to be in the present,” says Cordero. “Our minds, maybe they’re wandering elsewhere, picking up memories and thoughts and bringing them to the forefront with our bodies in the present.”

Flatland gave fans a preview of the album with October’s “Gone,” their debut single to country radio, “Never Comin’ Back,” fan favorite “On and On,” and most recent release, “Real Slow.” Today, the band pushes their creative boundaries with “Unglued” – Flatland at their most ambitious.

Cordero narrates the death rattle of a relationship that’s torn, frayed, and fractured beyond repair–and the sonic punch reflects that downward spiral with razor sharp guitars, a pulse laden with tension, and an infectious melody. “Except for you, I got everything I ever wanted,” Cordero laments.

The band’s headlining U.S. run, Work of Heart Tour, launched last weekend to packed-out audiences throughout the south. They’ll celebrate their album release this weekend, headlining Troubadour Festival in Bryan, TX.

Later this summer, Flatland will open for Dwight Yoakam, Morgan Wallen, and Cross Canadian Ragweed, alongside festival appearances at the Troubadour Festival, Tortuga Music Festival, headlining Stillwater, OK’s Calf Fry, Buckeye Country Superfest, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and many more. Full list of tour dates below; find tickets HERE.
