LOVERSTEETH RELEASE NEW EP FLORAL VIOLENCE

Floral Violence, LOVERSTEETH, New Music, Music, Singer, Songwriter, Entertainment News

Floral Violence, the new EP from Hamilton and Montréal based alt heavy modern metalcore rockers, Loversteeth, is out every where today. Following the lead single, Closer to the Sun, Floral Violence stands out as a bold piece of musical fluidity and takes on a life of its own, not caring what genre it’s supposed to be and inhabits its intent in a way that is fully realized. It’s heavy, it’s moody, it’s delicate, it’s beautifully real and raw, intersecting alternative metal with lush, brooding atmospheres of post-rock. Stream / buy here.

Brandon McCabe (vocals) shares: “In a literal sense, Floral Violence is the damage we cause to our planet and all its inhabitants with our callous disregard and exploitative nature. In the more personal, maybe even esoteric lens in which we approached songs, Floral Violence takes on a broader meaning. The new norms of our world, culture and society are all very clearly based on class divides, exploitative policy, and violent language that targets marginalized communities, and keeps 99% of us down in the dirt, begging for scraps and being told to be thankful.

It’s in our nature to stand for what we believe is right. In community, in giving back, in supporting those who need it. You don’t need to look far into our band’s history to know that we’ve always made an effort to use music to bring people together to support causes we believe in and make our small corner of the world a little nicer than we found it.”

For the band, Floral Violence exists within the tension between opposing paradigms, a reality where doing the right thing, standing together, and remaining true to oneself can be perceived as a threat by those in positions of power. It is within that space, and within the communities that support them, that the band channels its own form of floral violence against the “hideous normal” of the world around them.

The record explores both the pressures imposed upon individuals and the empowerment that can emerge from resisting them. At its core is a belief in the transformative power of love, solidarity, and community…forces the band views not only as sources of hope, but as radical acts of rebellion in their own right.

Recorded across Southern Ontario and beyond, Floral Violence brought together a talented team of engineers and producers. Guitars and bass were tracked at School House Studio in Dundas with Andy Dmytryshyn, while drums and vocals were recorded by Chris Snow at Catherine North Studios in Hamilton and Crows Nest Studio in Oakville, respectively. Mixing and mastering duties were completed by acclaimed producer Mike Watts at VuDu Studios in Port Jefferson, New York.

“We wanted to make this EP the old-school way: real amps, real drums, real synths, real microphones, everything recorded for real. It was important to chase the right sounds, focus on how we perform in a room, and capture that as honestly as possible. We wanted the record to feel real, raw, and as grungy as we could make it,” shares Karl Lebel Viens (guitars, backing vocals). “We also made a point of trusting the people we chose to work with. Andy helped shape our guitar sound and even played a riff on one of the tracks. Chris influenced the drum sound and vocal approach, while Mike pushed us in creative directions we hadn’t considered. It’s still very much our music, but we wanted to avoid the mindset that it had to be done only our way.”

“Floral Violence is intense, in its delivery. Lush, in its beauty. Alive, in its energy and its emotion… its anger, its love and its vulnerability. It’s the most human thing we’ve released to date,” adds McCabe.
