Electronic producer and multidisciplinary artist Max Cooper unveils new single ‘Ebb And Flow’, taken from his forthcoming album Feeling Is Structure, released 8th May via his own Mesh imprint.

Following the intricate systems of lead single ‘Pattern Index’, ‘Ebb And Flow’ turns inward, distilling Cooper’s structural approach to production into something more fluid and organic. Built on opposing forces and interdependent movement, the track unfolds through mirrored melodic lines: one rises as another falls, forming harmonies rooted in contrast.

Max explains: “For the Feeling is Structure project I’ve been working with different construction techniques to make music from processes more so than the usual improvisational techniques I’ve used on other recent records. This time I wanted to play with Ebb And Flow, with simultaneous rising and falling tones to create harmonies, and softly flowing synths with my favourite P6 vibe with those magic resonant overtones. Visually I was interested in connecting the everyday world to something like the Platonic realm, or at least, our models of what the world is, as an ebb and flow between the two, so I immediately thought of Yoshi Sodeoka’s beautiful work and got in touch to discuss ideas”.

The single arrives with a new visual collaboration with artist Yoshi Sodeoka. This piece is a continuation of their earlier work on the Fibonacci Sequence with Max and Kwake Bass, and was inspired by the concept of an ebb and flow between the physical world and our attempts to model or understand it. Sodeoka’s visual language rooted in systems and motion complements the track’s delicate balance between structure and fluidity, creating a work that feels both minimal and expansive as they add:

“I’ve been interested in how natural movement, like flocks of birds, can feel both organic and also somehow mathematical at the same time. In this video, that idea extends to opposing forces. I was thinking about back-and-forth motion, like yin and yang or heat and cold, where things are constantly shifting between states rather than reaching a stable balance.”

Developed from a commission to create a live show for London’s Royal Albert Hall, Max’s upcoming album Feeling Is Structure explores the relationship between physical form and human emotion. Across 10 spatial audio-visual works, Cooper examines how structure in sound, architecture, biology and art, shapes the way we feel. Musically, Feeling Is Structure leans into Cooper’s more intricate and deliberate compositional side. Rather than improvisation, the record focuses on carefully designed systems and processes that build evolving sonic architectures. Precise at the micro level, but deeply emotive in impact.

The project will also be realised as an immersive touring experience, translating the album’s spatial concepts into large-scale audio-visual performance environments, including the show at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall which sold out in just 48 hours. Supporting Max will be HAAi playing their latest live show.

“Mappings between structures and feelings are important,” Cooper adds. “They connect art and science, and they enrich how we experience the world. Imagine life without music — that’s just one abstract structure we all connect with. There are many more.”

Feeling Is Structure is released Friday 8 May on digital platforms in Stereo and Dolby Atmos, and as a limited triple-vinyl edition via Mesh. Upcoming tour dates listed below, with more TBA.
