McLAREN 720S GT3 AND COMPASS RACING TO MAKE SEASON DEBUT AT IMSA’S WEATHERTECH 240 AT DAYTONA
The McLaren 720S GT3 and Compass Racing will make its season debut this weekend at IMSA’s WeatherTech 240 AT DAYTONA, part of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Entering its second year with the McLaren 720S GT3, and fourth overall season with McLaren, the Compass Racing team is poised for a strong showing, with drivers Paul Holton – who previously has brought the team a number of wins at the helm of the 570S GT4 – including Long Beach in 2018 and Daytona in 2019 – and new driver, Corey Fergus, who competed in a McLaren in the Michelin Pilot Challenge for the past two years, finishing second in the championship last season.
“We’re looking forward to getting our IMSA WeatherTech Sprint Cup season under way at Daytona, and to build on the very positive test days we had at Sebring and Road Atlanta earlier this year before the shut-downs occurred,” remarked Team Owner Jill Beck. “At those tests our engineering team worked closely with their McLaren counterparts and we made significant strides in a number of key areas. We’ve got a really talented driver line-up this season with Paul and Corey, incredible support from Richard Mille and our manufacturer, and feel we’ll have the pace to contend for wins in the Sprint Cup championship this year.”

The IMSA series in North America is one of the toughest tests in GT racing in which Compass Racing aim to continue to prove the performance of the McLaren 720S GT3 which has started 2020 well after it placed second overall in February on its debut at the 12 Hours of Bathurst in Australia.”
The inherent aerodynamic design, carbon fibre chassis and V8 engine of the road going 720S make it the perfect base for a race car – 90 percent of components on the McLaren 720S GT3 have been optimized in some way from the 720S. This Super Series model offers the widest breadth of dynamic capability of any McLaren road car, from controlled comfort to extreme handling prowess. At the heart of the 720S is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that produces 710hp and 568 lb ft of torque; 0-60mph takes only 2.8 seconds, while 0-124mph is reached in a blistering 7.8 seconds. In addition to its rapid acceleration and top speed of 212mph, the 720S delivers outstanding driver engagement, with a new generation of McLaren’s active chassis system, Proactive Chassis Control II and double the aerodynamic efficiency of its Super Series predecessor.
The 720S coupe is available at North American retailers with a starting MSRP of $299,000, while the 720S Spider is available with a starting MSRP of $315,000.
