Oakland Roots Notch Historic First Win, Defeat CA Zacatepec of Mexico
Oakland Roots won their first match with a 2-0 result against Zacatepec of the Mexican second division. The match was played in front of a crowd of 4,837.
Jack McInerney opened the scoring in the eighth minute. Benji Joya created the chance with a line-splitting pass from near midfield that found McInerney in stride inside the area. McInerney hit the pass first time, tucking his shot inside the far post from a tight angle on the right.
Roots doubled their lead early in the second half. Chris Christian lofted a pass into the box, and Octavio Guzman beat his mark to flick a shot around the onrushing Zacatepec goalkeeper.
Roots close their home schedule for 2019 with a NISA Showcase match against Los Angeles Force on Saturday, October 13. Tickets are available at www.oaklandrootssc.com/tickets.
