Omar Apollo is Surrounded by Evergreens at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheater

From being Grammy-nominated, to his song “Evergreen” charting Billboard’s top 100 chart, and now performing at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheater, Omar Apollo has already built a very strong music career. The Colorado stop of his “God Said No” tour was accompanied by a trio of openers.
Red Rocks always provides a breathtaking experience, as opener Malcolm Todd would point out, we were “at the best venue in the country”. The crowd would engage when asked to give a hand for it. Malcolm Todd would start the night supported by his band. He would play so hard he’d break a string on his guitar, causing him to
swap instruments. He let the crowd know the new guitar wasn’t his vibe, but he embraced it and let everyone know he was now MGK. Moments into their last song a rare sight of a shooting star would cross the sky. The audience would point and watch its path in awe.

Ravyn Lenae would perform next with a guitarist and a drummer on each of her sides. Her elegant performance under the hues of red lights would greatly complement the tones of the whole evening. She
would showcase her talent of creating unique sounds that stray away
from being “too R&B”, in her own words.

The amphitheater would be caught off guard as the third opener, Kevin Abstract, would emerge away from the stage on top of the naturally surrounding rocks. After performing “Empty” off his 2016 solo album, Kevin would find his way to the stage to perform several Brockhampton songs (his former group). After Brockhampton cut their last tour short and announced they would all be departing from the group, fans can now be happy to know their music still exists in the live setting. Kevin would join the crowd for his last few songs of the night and take time to give signatures and take pictures with fans after his set.

Omar Apollo would take the stage in high spirits and would allow time in between songs to take in the moment. He expressed gratitude for his supporting acts and mentioned how special it was to see Kevin
Abstract perform explicitly gay songs to such a large audience, as Omar comes from a conservative Indiana.
Omar’s selection would be a great mix of slow songs, lively tracks, and a few dance-worthy picks to have the audience jumping. Aside from his voice, his dancing would also be a highlight of the night, joined by a whole crew. Amongst his lengthy setlist, he would perform his full Spanish song “En El Olvido” and would ask the crowd for the best “grito” (celebratory shout). “Point at your homie with the big lungs” he exclaimed as two fans would then give it their best shot.

It was a special night to see how far Omar Apollo has come. In a 2023 Grammy Awards interview he talked about the pressures of being a son of immigrant parents and how creative success is quick to take a backseat. With him making it to the iconic stage and bringing songs like “Want You Around”, “Spite”, “Useless”, and “Evergreen” fans could easily take away a new sense of inspiration and empowerment
