NE-YO Releases Vulnerable New Single “Thinking What I’m Thinking” Ahead of Country-Inspired Album Highway 79
Three-time GRAMMY® Award-winning hitmaker NE-YO releases his newest single, “Thinking What I’m Thinking”. The track offers another layer of his forthcoming country-inspired album, Highway 79, arriving July 10th. “Thinking What I’m Thinking” is available now on all streaming platforms via Compound Ent.
“Thinking What I’m Thinking” is a reflective, emotionally intimate track produced by Chuck Harmony that explores the fragile space between two people growing apart. Rooted in honest songwriting, it captures the quiet tension of a relationship losing momentum and the uncertainty that follows. Opening with the candid refrain, “Are you thinking what I’m thinking / We ain’t been on the same page for the last little minute / Both moving like we only halfway in it”, the song confronts emotional distance head-on while leaning into the possibility of rebuilding through communication, presence, and intentional reconnection.
Recorded entirely in Nashville, Highway 79 reflects NE-YO’s continued exploration of country-influenced sounds through his signature songwriting style. Named in part after his birth year and Highway 79 in Arkansas, where he was born, the project blends genres while centering deeply personal storytelling. Previous releases from the album include “Simple Things,” “Up Out & Gone,” and “Ms. Tundra,” each showcasing a different sonic layer of the project.
Beyond the album rollout, NE-YO will perform at the Disney Celebrates America: Nashville’s Star-Spangled Bash, on July 4th joining a lineup that includes The All-American Rejects, Boyz II Men, Reba McEntire, Tim McGraw, Nick Jonas, and more for a night of live music, fireworks, and celebration.
He is also currently touring globally on the ‘Nights Like This’ global tour alongside Akon. The 57-city run kicked off April 24 in Dublin and continued through major cities across Europe and North America before concluding August 21 in Los Angeles. The Canada dates are now underway, and the U.S. leg begins July 10, coinciding with the release of Highway 79 and marking another major milestone in the album rollout.
The release arrives during a milestone chapter for NE-YO, who recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of his debut album In My Own Words, the project that introduced the world to era-defining hits including “So Sick.” With more than 23 billion global streams and a catalog that has shaped modern R&B for two decades, NE-YO continues to evolve while staying rooted in the songwriting that made him one of music’s most enduring voices.
