ROXANA AMED PRESENTS THE SECOND SINGLE FROM HER UPCOMING ALBUM “TODOS LOS FUEGOS”
Renowned singer and composer Roxana Amed presents her reinterpretation of “Ciudad de pobres corazones,” the iconic classic by Fito Páez that not only marked a pivotal moment in the Rosario-born artist’s discography but also became one of the most visceral and moving testimonies in the history of Argentine rock.
Originally released in 1987, “Ciudad de pobres corazones” is one of Páez’s most intense and raw albums, born from personal pain and upheaval. The title track is an unflinching portrait of a city torn by violence and loss, with an artist turning to creation as a way to exorcise that tragedy.
Amed builds a bridge between the raw energy of the original and her own artistic voice, offering a reinterpretation through jazz and the musical sensitivity of the musicians involved in this version.
The introduction of the arrangement by Martin Bejerano, loosely references the beginning of the original track but shares its wild, electric intensity.
Amed once again brings in fellow Argentine Leo Genovese (Esperanza Spalding, Wayne Shorter) for this song, and continues to entrust the legacy to Tim Lefebvre (David Bowie, Saturday Night Live) on electric bass and Kenny Wollesen (Tom Waits, Bill Frisell) on drums. In addition to adding synthesizers, Bejerano included percussion by Samuel Torres to add more layers to the powerful arrangement.
The recording took place at Sear Sound in New York City, an iconic studio where artists such as John Lennon and Sting, among other international and local figures, have recorded.
Funk and psychedelia, solos, intense unisons, gritty percussion, and Amed’s deep and emotional voice reflect the resonance of this great classic through an artist who not only honors Fito Páez’s work but also reaffirms her place as one of the most unique and relevant voices in contemporary Spanish-language music.
