VIKINGS AGREE TO TERMS WITH RB AARON JONES SR.

Set to be an unrestricted free agent at the start of the 2025 League Year, Jones has agreed to terms with the Minnesota Vikings, returning for a second season with the team. Originally drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round (182nd overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft out of UTEP, Jones spent seven seasons with the Packers before signing with the Vikings in March of 2024. In his first season in Minnesota, Jones set career highs in rushing attempts (255) and rushing yards (1,138), becoming just the third player in franchise history to reach 1,000 rushing yards in his first season with the team, joining Chester Taylor (2006) and Adrian Peterson (2007). It marked his fourth career season rushing for at least 1,000 yards.

In his first eight career NFL seasons (2017-24), Jones started 102 of the 114 regular season games he played and tallied 7,078 rushing yards and 50 touchdowns on 1,432 carries, adding 2,484 receiving yards and 20 scores on 323 receptions. Jones started each of the eight postseason games he appeared in, rushing for 559 yards and seven touchdowns on 117 attempts. Among running backs with at least 1,000 career carries, Jones ranks sixth in the NFL all-time with an average of 4.9 yards per rush. A two-time Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee (2021 and 2022) during his tenure with the Packers, Jones was named both the Vikings Salute to Service Award and Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award nominee in 2024.
