Disclosure release ‘Arachnids’

Ahead of their sixth appearance at Manchester’s iconic Warehouse Project tonight, where they are set to host their debut Friends & Family take over, producer brothers Disclosure have shared their gnarly, pulsating club banger ’Arachnids’. that features some select fans and their genuine, up close and personal reaction to listening to ‘Arachnids’, interspersed with footage of creepy crawlies and cymatic vibrations caused by the bass frequencies of the track. The result is a captivating and stylistic accompaniment to the acerbic song.

There is a long and rich history between this spiritual club space and Disclosure who first played WHP in 2012 at the tender age of 18 & 21. They went on to curate a night there at the end of their breakthrough year in 2013 which saw artists such as Tourist, Flume, Dusky, Breach and Zed Bias play Room 1 alongside the brothers. Room 2 hosted Krysko, Justin Martin, Oneman, Bicep, and George Fitzgerald.

The Lawrence brothers returned to WHP time and time again as they navigated their exponential growth into global superstardom as dance producers and DJ’s which took them to dizzy new heights across their four pop sprinkled studio albums (2 x UK No. 1’s), worldwide festival headline slots (incl. 2 x Glastonburys), numerous GRAMMY and Brit Award nominations – yet they always come home to one thing, the core electronic dance music community; the lifeblood of their scene and ever expanding musical horizons.

This years’ special Friends & Family night will find Disclosure taking over 3 rooms alongside a specially curated lineup featuring Folamour, Floating Points (DJ set), DJ BORING b2b Sam Alfred, Jyoty, Sally C and many more. ‘Arachnids’ sounds like it was made for tonight. A driving, fearsome but fearless exploration into the dark corners of Guy Lawrences mind. A rolling, driving bass gives way to an ethereal higher plane of sonic expanse. It’s a detour in sound for Disclosure and one that Guy has been keen to dissect for their fans – the breakdown of the production design of ‘Arachnids’ already has 100k streams on Twitch.

Guy explains the process: “Creating “Arachnids” felt like an ever-evolving creative puzzle of sound design & groove exploration. The project came together over many months of tweaking & adjusting the various sounds & vocals. Each piece was inserted without a box to guide me but all built around a 10-minute drum machine jam.

For me, this is kind of like a diary entry of where my skills in music are currently at, in terms of mix & production. I wanted to ask myself questions such as: How far can I stretch & evolve this fairly simple drum loop? Can it go through almost multiple genres along the way? Do I need more than one chord? Can the kick be the bassline? So much creative freedom & nerdy moments in the studio for this one, but with the aim of still keeping the foundations & groove simple & concise. It’s not gonna be one you can sing along to but I hope some of you get a lot of enjoyment from it… I know I did.”

‘Arachnids’ follows the hyper hypnotic and infectious ‘in2minds’ – the recently released collaboration with Chris Lake which found these two dynamic dance acts teaming up for the first time. ‘in2minds’ first began building buzz back in May, when Disclosure previewed it during their B2B set with Mochakk at Cercle Festival. After teasing the track in July at Black Book On The Pier in Brooklyn, Lake appeared as a surprise guest at Disclosure’s Friends & Family pop-up in Los Angeles in August and once again thrilled the crowd with a special preview of ‘in2minds’. In addition, leading DJs like Four Tet, salute, Joy Orbison, Ben UFO, and more played the tune regularly at underground club shows all summer long.

Before the Lake collaboration, Disclosure released ‘She’s Gone, Dance On’, an unstoppable summer smash that premiered as the ‘Hottest Record’ on BBC Radio 1’s New Music Show with Jack Saunders, debuted at #16 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, and graced Billboard’s Friday Dance Music Guide. Since premiering in May (with its stunningly choreographedvideo following in July), the lush and euphoric track has received remixes from the likes of U.K. phenom Hamdi, Turkish DJ Carlita, and U.S. legend Todd Edwards. Along with dazzling worldwide audiences with an all-new stage show rich in organic instrumentation, Disclosure recently joined forces with a lineup of A-list musicians to create the unforgettably soulful ‘She’s Gone, Dance On (Live From The Mews)’.
