Written and Captured By | Erin Spain
Irish indie-pop band modernlove. played at Center Stage Theater’s Vinyl on last Friday night. Vinyl is an intimate venue with a capacity of 300 located in Midtown Atlanta.
The show opened with Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter and indie artist, Miette Hope. Hope, who also produces her own music, has a soulful sound and blends genres, with influences spanning jazz, pop, and R&B. Her lyrics are emotional and honest, and the crowd enthusiastically embraced her music. Her set included her newest release, “Happy People.” If you have a chance to catch a show on this tour, be sure to stop by the merch table and pick up one of her handmade lighters.

Next up was modernlove. Hailing from a rural town in Ireland called Drogheda, and headlining their first US tour, they played a variety of songs including their latest single “Only Ever Only You,” as well as tracks from their 2022 EP “Oh My Mind.” A mix of alt-rock and indie pop, they have a vibe that is subtly akin to bands like The 1975 and Pale Waves.
The four-piece band formed in 2016 when small town childhood friends got together to share their mutual love for music. Writing about things that 20-somethings know all too well, like young love and the chaos surrounding it, they built a grassroots following back home and are now selling out shows in the US.

Considering the fact that this is their first ever US tour, it was impressive to see some diehard fans in the crowd singing along to every song and knowing all the words. The band voiced their appreciation and singer Barry Lally remarked on their experience in the US and how friendly Americans seem to be.
Modernlove. will be touring the US throughout the rest of March, followed by a UK tour including Live at Leeds in the Park.
