Thoom drops music video for ‘I’m Going Back To Lebanon’

Thoom – the experimental alt-pop brainchild of Beirut-born, Los Angeles-based artist and producer Zeynab Marwan – drops the music video directed by Neve Abcari for focus track ‘I’m Going Back To Lebanon’ following the release of her debut album Everyday, Everything Is At Stake.

With co-signs from Addison Rae, Clairo, Kim Petras, Ninajirachi and daine, Everyday, Everything Is At Stake offers a new, radical vision for pop music which encompasses displacement and belonging, tenderness and rage, girlhood and revolution. Merging visual signatures from Arabic cinema against the backdrop of the Wild West, the video captures the tension between two worlds: “Did the summer end? / Is it war again? / Am I going back to Lebanon?”

Executive-produced by Dylan Brady of 100 gecs and created between Los Angeles and Lebanon, the album moves between pop, noise, and Arabic punk unapologetically. The result is a record of survival. Its release was celebrated by a special release day show at Los Angeles’ Echoplex which featured performances by Dylan Brady, Slolphia, and MP3 Girl.

‘Janani’ is fully Arabic and uncompromising. ‘I’m Going Back to Lebanon’ asks what home means when returning to it can never be taken for granted. It follows ‘December Forever’ (750+ streams), which caught the attention of Arca and leans into the pop she’s always loved, as well as the previous single ‘Towards the Sky’.

The album release arrives ahead of  Thoom’s North American White Flag tour with Bassvictim which begins next week in San Diego, LA, and Pomona. Alongside recent shows in Cairo and Los Angeles, she has performed with Cece Natalie, underscores, The Dare, Frost Children, Bassvictim, Dorian Electra, and Jockstrap.

Everyday, Everything Is At Stake is Thoom’s first release since her 2023 debut EP, Fantasy for Danger. Her next album, produced by Ike Clateman of Bassvictim, will follow later this year.
