Chicago had the chance to witness an unforgettable night when Falling in Reverse made their stop, delivering a masterclass in showmanship from the opening act to the main event. From rising stars to seasoned veterans, the night had something for everyone.

The evening kicked off with the dynamic Jeris Johnson, an up-and-coming artist making waves with his unique blend of rock, pop, and electronic sounds. Johnson’s music, often described as “future rock,” merges heavy guitar riffs with modern beats, creating a rebellious energy that gets audiences hyped. His stage presence was undeniable as he delivered bold lyrics and a fusion of trap and metal influences. Starting the night with such intensity was the perfect way to set the tone for what was to come.

Next up was the legendary Tech N9ne, who seemed like an unexpected addition to the largely metal/rock lineup. In fact, Tech himself addressed this, sharing how some of his peers had doubted the fit of his older catalog for the tour. However, he quickly proved them wrong, captivating the crowd with his intricate, rapid-fire rhymes. Tech N9ne’s energy was electric, and the audience fully embraced his set, showing that good music transcends genres. His technical prowess left no doubt why he’s regarded as one of the top talents in the rap game. And this wouldn’t be the last we’d see of him that night.

As the lights dimmed again, the crowd’s anticipation grew for Black Veil Brides. The band, a mainstay in the rock scene for over a decade, took the stage to thunderous applause. Known for their theatrical performances and bold, rebellious image, Black Veil Brides have built a dedicated fanbase, the “BVB Army,” who live for their empowering messages. Frontman Andy Biersack led the charge, delivering the band’s signature anthems with heavy guitar riffs and driving drum beats. With influences from classic acts like Mötley Crüe and Kiss, the band’s mix of visual flair and modern rock sensibilities has kept them at the forefront of the genre. Their set was a reminder of their long-standing presence in the scene, with tracks like Set the World on Fire and Wretched and Divine showing why they remain icons in modern rock.

The crowd was buzzing as Dance Gavin Dance took the stage. Chicago was ready, and the band did not disappoint. Known for their distinctive dual-vocalist approach, Dance Gavin Dance blends clean, soaring vocals with raw, unclean screams, a combination that gives their music a unique and powerful dynamic. Despite lineup changes over the years, the band’s sound remains consistent, characterized by intricate guitar riffs, funky bass lines, and unpredictable song structures. Lead vocalist Tilian Pearson’s smooth melodies perfectly complemented Jon Mess’s aggressive, chaotic energy, creating a performance that was equal parts beautiful and intense. Albums like Mothership and Afterburner have established Dance Gavin Dance as boundary-pushers in the post-hardcore genre, and their live show only solidified their reputation. The crowd was fully engaged, embracing the diverse lineup that led to the evening’s final act.

Finally, the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived: Falling in Reverse. The energy in the venue was palpable as fans chanted for frontman Ronnie Radke. When the lights dimmed, the screens showed a humorous skit of the band backstage, pumping themselves up as if they were wrestlers getting ready to enter the ring. The crowd erupted as Ronnie sprinted onto the stage, kicking off the set with tracks from their latest album, including the fan-favorite “Popular Monster.”

Ronnie’s stage presence is something to behold. He’s more than just a frontman—he’s a showman in every sense of the word. His ability to connect with the audience, whether through self-deprecating humor or by drawing them into every chorus, sets him apart. His charisma is undeniable, and his unfiltered personality resonates with fans who appreciate his authenticity. The band’s performance was tight, delivering a mix of new tracks and older hits that reminded everyone why Falling in Reverse remains a dominant force in the metal scene. As the night came to a close, it was clear that this was more than just another tour stop for the band—it was a triumphant return to form.

Falling in Reverse delivered one of the best heavy metal performances I’ve had the pleasure of covering in a long time. Chicago is eagerly awaiting their next visit!
